Revelation Chapter 5 — The Lamb Is Worthy
John sees God seated on His throne, holding a scroll sealed with seven seals. A mighty angel asks who is worthy to open it. When no one is found, John weeps.
One of the elders tells him that the Lion of the tribe of Judah has overcome. John then sees Jesus pictured as a Lamb who was slain, standing alive. Jesus takes the scroll, and heaven worships Him because His blood has redeemed people from every tribe, language, people, and nation.
Main message: Jesus, the crucified and risen Lamb, is worthy to carry out God’s purposes. All creation joins in praising God and the Lamb.
Revelation Chapter 6 — The First Six Seals
As Jesus opens the seals, John sees events revealing judgment and suffering on earth:
- First seal — White horse: A rider goes out conquering. Christians differ on his identity; many understand him as conquest or deceptive power.
- Second seal — Red horse: Peace is taken from the earth, bringing violence and war.
- Third seal — Black horse: Scales and costly food point to scarcity and famine.
- Fourth seal — Pale horse: Its rider is Death, followed by Hades. Widespread death comes through sword, hunger, pestilence, and wild beasts.
- Fifth seal — The martyrs: Those killed for God’s Word cry out for justice. They receive white robes and are told to rest a little longer.
- Sixth seal — Cosmic upheaval: A great earthquake and terrifying signs in the heavens cause people of every rank to hide from God’s judgment and the wrath of the Lamb.
The chapter ends with the question: “Who shall be able to stand?” (Revelation 6:17, KJV).
The connection: Chapter 5 shows who holds authority—Jesus Christ. Chapter 6 shows the opening of the seals under His authority. Even amid suffering and judgment, God’s purposes remain in His hands.
