Even So lord Jesus Come

Devotion: “Even So, Lord Jesus, Come”

Scripture Focus:
“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”
— Revelation 22:20 (NIV)

Reflection

The final words of the Bible echo a powerful prayer: “Come, Lord Jesus.” This simple yet profound plea embodies the longing of the Church for Christ’s return and the fulfillment of God’s eternal plan. It is a cry of faith, hope, and surrender, rooted in the promises of Scripture and the reality of God’s sovereignty.

1. A Cry of Expectation

The phrase “Even so, come” expresses the anticipation of Jesus’ promised return. In a world filled with brokenness, pain, and injustice, believers long for the day when Christ will come to make all things new. Revelation assures us that Jesus is not delaying His return arbitrarily but is coming “soon” according to God’s perfect timing (Revelation 22:7, 12).

Reflection Question:
How does the promise of Jesus’ return shape your perspective on the challenges and uncertainties of life?

2. A Cry of Surrender

Saying “Come, Lord Jesus” is also an act of surrender. It acknowledges that only Jesus can bring true peace, justice, and restoration. It’s a declaration that we trust Him completely, knowing His plans are good and perfect. In praying these words, we relinquish control and invite His rule over our lives.

Reflection Question:
Are there areas of your life where you need to surrender more fully to Christ’s lordship?

3. A Cry of Hope

This prayer is rooted in hope—the confident assurance that Jesus will return as King. The New Jerusalem, the river of life, the tree of healing, and the absence of death and sorrow are not just dreams but promises (Revelation 22:1–5). They remind us that God’s story ends in triumph, and for those in Christ, the best is yet to come.

Reflection Question:
How can you live with greater hope and joy, knowing that Jesus will return to make all things right?

Application

  1. Live Expectantly
    • Begin each day with the prayer, “Come, Lord Jesus,” and let it inspire you to live in faithful anticipation of His return.
  2. Surrender Fully
    • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where you may be holding back from trusting Christ completely.
  3. Share the Hope
    • Encourage others with the hope of Christ’s return, especially those who are weary or struggling.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we long for the day of Your return. Even as we face challenges, we hold fast to Your promise that You are coming soon. Help us to live in expectation, surrendering our lives to You and sharing the hope of Your kingdom with others. Until that day, strengthen our faith and fill us with joy as we echo this prayer: Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Poem, Even So, Lord Jesus, Come

The world awaits with weary sigh,
Beneath the shadowed, tear-streaked sky.
A broken earth, a longing heart,
For peace to mend what’s torn apart.

We see the strife, we feel the pain,
The endless loss, the constant strain.
Yet through the darkness, hope takes flight,
A promised dawn, a holy light.

For You have said, “I’m coming soon,”
To chase away the night’s cold tune.
To dry each tear, to end the fight,
And crown the day with perfect light.

O Lamb of God, O risen King,
To You our hearts in longing cling.
Though years may pass, our prayer’s the same,
We lift our voices, call Your name:

Even so, Lord Jesus, come,
Bring heaven’s peace to be our home.
Let justice roll, let mercy reign,
Restore the world from sin and pain.

With every breath, we wait for You,
Our faithful hope, our promise true.
Until that day, Your kingdom come,
We cry in faith, “Lord Jesus, come.”
